Siemers Dundee Hilda

BARABOO, WI – Siemers Dundee Hilda, an Excellent-95 Gold Medal Dam bred and developed by Siemers Holsteins of Newton, Wis., has been named the 2015 Wisconsin Cow of the Year. Hilda will be recognized with this honor during the International Holstein Show at this year’s World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis.

In 2005, the Siemers family made the decision to purchase Hilda’s dam, Mayerlane-DK Rudolph Hiawatha-ET, EX-90 DOM, from Adolf Langhout. Her grand dam, 4E-95 GMD DOM Golden-Oaks Mark Prudence, was a tremendous cow for the Mayer family at Mayerlane Holsteins, but was never offered for sale. Her influence was seen in many other herds, and her high type and production drew the Siemers family to the cow family.

Hilda has had a prolific show career for her owner, Jordan Siemers. In 2013 and 2014, Hilda was the Overall NASCO Type and Production Award Winner at World Dairy Expo’s International Holstein Show. She is a two-time Junior All-American production cow (2011 and 2013) and was named Grand Champion of the International Junior Holstein Show at World Dairy Expo in 2011. An anchor of Breeder and Exhibitor banners at state and national shows, Hilda just knows when she needs to have a good showing and the Siemers family is counting on her.

Along with her outstanding type, Hilda has also been a tremendous production cow in her own right. Her highest record to date at 4-10 on 2x milking in 365 days produced 56,780 pounds of milk with 3.1% 1746 pounds of fat and 3.2% 1749 pounds of protein. Her lifetime totals to date with 1998 days on test include over 254,000 pounds of milk with over 8,700 pounds fat and 8,000 pounds protein.

Hilda will be ten years old this October, and the Siemers family plans on taking her to shows as long as she can still compete with the best – they can never count her out. The entire family loves Hilda, and visitors admire her for what she is – a beautiful, hard working milk cow.

Each year, a Wisconsin purebred cattle association selects a cow to represent her breed as the Cow of the Year at World Dairy Expo. The honor is rotated annually between the seven major dairy breeds. Hilda was nominated and selected by the members of the Wisconsin Holstein Association. Further details of the ceremony to recognize Hilda at World Dairy Expo will be announced in the coming weeks.
