Kilgarriffe Pietje 96 with the Helen family

It’s hard to know where to start this article – a farming family carrying decades of history always comes with a big story… Perhaps to paint a picture of this evolving herd we could start by introducing the oldest cow on farm, 13-year-old Kilgarriffe Elly Mae EX-94-6E (Nethervale Mel-Oman). Producing 115,000kg/255.000lb in her lifetime to date, this 10th lactation powerhouse traces back to Whittier-Farms Lead Mae. But this is not where the high classifications end, as headlining the scores are two EX-95 cows – 6th lactation Kilgarriffe Fancy 11 (<Calando) and Kilgarriffe Sunny Pietje 13 by Silver who gave 12,468kg/27.487lb at 5.03%F, 3.22%P in her last 305d lactation. Yes: The cows here milk well and are long-lasting!

Remarkably, all three of the herd’s oldest cows – Elly Mae, Fancy, and Pietje – as well as the lines of Ebony, Froukje, and Prudence, were acquired from ALH.
